Progress Report

Don went to Parent/Teacher conference on Wednesday afternoon; unfortunately, I couldn't make it because of work. Ms. Parra (the boy's teacher) had nothing but good things to say about Isiah. His progress report looks great. He's right on track and catching on well, he has become proficient in the areas that were previously identified as needing some improvement at the beginning of the year. We've all noticed that it does take him a bit to grasp things/concepts (as it does everyone, right?!), but then it clicks and he's on a roll...it's so awesome to see.

Isiah's writing samples from just last month were a little lacking in structure, but this month's is already substantially improved. The shape of his letters are better and he's getting the idea of words and sentences, even attempting to spell phonetically. Would you believe Isiah's best subject, the one he seems to "just get" is Math...patterns, counting, money, etc.


Ms. Parra said Isiah listening skills have improved. Coming from a preschool/daycare setting and being an only child, he was used to just doing his own thing, it took him a bit to get used to the structure of school and the classroom setting. She was also happy to report that the boy is well-behaved in class and is very considerate of others.

It's so exciting!! We are so proud of him!! What an amazing feeling!! I completely understand what my parents mean when they say that their childrens' successes are their successes. Don is thrilled; it seems as though he feels a sense of relief or peace and accomplishment to know that he is doing well by his son. I can honestly say he is, he really does all he can and is more than involved as a father (even with my help these days). It's awesome to think that we are helping Isiah learn, through our love for him we are helping him build the self-esteem and confidence to know that he can do anything he puts his mind to, and instilling those values that will help him grow into a healthy person and member of society. Whoa! - talk about looking at the bigger picture.
